Ruth Chism McCulloch Odom

Ruth Marie Chism McCulloch Odom age 83, passed away Monday, January 6, 2025, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Ruth was born in Cleveland, MS on May 5, 1941, to Alfred Boozer Chism and Dovie Mae Whiteside Chism. She was a graduate of Eupora High School and attended Holmes Community College School of Cosmetology and worked under Mrs. Francis Stauddy as a cosmetologist and later graduated from Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS where she obtained a master's degree in political science and secondary education. Ruth started teaching in 1979 at Eupora High School in Eupora, MS and taught for many years before retiring. She was also an active member of the Eupora Church of Christ in Eupora, MS. Ruth especially loved the Lord, her family, former students and all her fur babies very much. She enjoyed flying in the airplane with her first husband, Truman. He would fly over the house every day and dip the wing down just to say, "hello". Ruth also had a love for lighthouses and enjoyed posting them on her Facebook page along with her critter adventures. Her family placed a ring camera on the front and back of her home and she always was amused at watching them. Mrs. Odom is survived by her daughter, Anne (Gary) Lum, Madison, MS; two sons, David McCulloch, Corcoran, CA and Eric (Tonya) McCulloch, Ruston, LA; one stepdaughter, Linda Odom (Tim) Bright, Grenada, MS; six grandchildren, Stephen and Jessica Lum, Rileigh, Raegan, Luke and Levi McCulloch; three step grandchildren, Lauren Earnest, Matthew and Ryan Bright and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by both her parents, Alfred Boozer Chism and Dovie Mae Whiteside Chism; both of her husbands, Truman McCulloch and W.D. "Dan" Odom; an infant sister and one brother, William Howard Chism. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Eupora Church of Christ in Eupora, MS. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 12Noon until time for services at Eupora Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Eupora City Cemetery in Eupora, MS. The Graveside/Committal Services will be held at Eupora Church of Christ instead of Eupora City Cemetery. Bro. James Hill will officiate. Pallbearers will be Tom Macon, Phillip Reed, Dyllan Reed, Ricky Newton, Tommy Gladney, Bill Dean, Tommy Ballard, Danny Crutchfield and Sid Allen. Honorary Pallbearers are Rickey McCulloch and Preston Vegh. In lieu of flowers the family requests that all memorials be made to Eupora Church of Christ. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora is honored to be entrusted with all arrangements.
