Russell "Russ" Slater Turner age 66, of Eupora, MS, passed away unexpectedly on April 5, 2025, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora, MS. Russ was born on September 30, 1958, in Philadelphia, MS, to James "Jack" Herman Turner and Eunice Salter Turner. He was known as a proud son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and "Russie" to all of his family and friends. Russ was a 1976 graduate of Eupora High School in Eupora, MS and then went on to receive a Bachelor's degree from Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS. He spent most of his working career working for Webster County holding the offices of County Supervisor and formerly serving as Webster County's Chancery Clerk until his recent retirement. Russ played an important role in taking care of Webster Countians during the tragic fire at the Webster County Courthouse in 2013 and then the rebuilding of the current Webster County Courthouse in Walthall, MS. He was a big MSU fan and enjoyed attending games and functions at his alma mater. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, grilling with his family and was a loving and devoted caregiver to his wife, Carol Booth Turner before her passing in 2022. After his retirement, Russ became the full-time spoiler of the grandchildren with the title of "Circle K Slushie King". He loved his girls and family dearly. Russ is survived by his mother, Eunice Salter Turner, Eupora, MS; two daughters, Kadie (Dillon) Byrd, Eupora, MS and Callie (Zach) Johnson, Eupora, MS; one sister, Paula Turner, Tupelo, MS; four grandchildren, Emma Kate, Ella, Aniston and Ava; mother-in-law, Freitchie Hunt Booth and a host of cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Carol Booth Turner; his father, James "Jack" Herman Turner; father-in-law, Glenn Harold Booth and a first cousin and best friend, Stanley Salter. Funeral Services for Mr. Russell "Russ" Salter Turner will be at 2:00PM on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Eupora, MS. The Family will receive friends and loved ones for a time of visitation from 5:00PM until 8:00PM on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Oliver Funeral Home in Eupora, MS. Interment will follow at Eupora City Cemetery in Eupora, MS. The Graveside/Committal Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Eupora instead of Eupora City Cemetery. Rev. Travis Gray will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Charles Oliver, Jr., Doug Burgess, Tate Salter, Daniel Vowell, Steve Montgomery, Aubrey Holder, Joe Hays, Beau Powell, Chip Powell and Randy Tabb. Honorary Pallbearers are Sid Salter, Tee Golden and the Webster County Board of Supervisors. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora is entrusted with all arrangements and is honored to serve the Turner family.
