Funeral Services will be held 2:00PM Friday 1/14/22 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora with burial in Salem Independent Methodist Cemetery Choctaw County, MS. Visitation will be 5:00PM until 7:00PM Thursday 1/13/22 at Oliver Funeral Home. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Johnny M. Carden of Mathiston. Johnny was born May 31st 1946 in Mathiston, MS. He went to be with his Heavenly Father on the night of January 8th 2022. Johnny was the devoted husband of Gloria W. Carden for 49 blessed years. He was the loving father to Matthew Carden, Marc (Amelia) Carden, and Broc Carden. He was the beloved grandfather to his three grandsons, Spencer Carden, Cameron Carden, and John Luke Carden. He was the brother to Joe (Jean) Carden and Jimmy (Malissa) Carden. Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, John Vardie Carden and Ruth Carden, a sister, Ann Pinnix, and brother James Carden. Johnny was a Vietnam War veteran and served from 1968 to 1970. He was awarded two bronze star medals for acts of courage above and beyond the call of duty while under attack. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman his entire life. He spent countless days fishing with his sons, brothers, or friends. He never caught a fish that wasn’t worth keeping. He looked forward to one of his sons to call him after a deer hunt with the good news of bringing back a deer for him to process. His greatest love was always his family. He enjoyed spending his retirement tooling around his shop or going to work with one of his three sons. He enjoyed his daily trips to Traceway and afternoon rides with his beloved little companion, his dog Penny. He was well known by many from working nearly 45 years as the friendly butcher at Piggly Wiggly in Mathiston. He truly loved talking to people and building friendships. He would give the shirt off his back to anybody that was in need. He touched so many people over the years through is genuine kindness, selflessness, and generosity. The town of Mathiston will never be the same without Johnny Carden. Though, his memory and legacy will carry on through his family and friends Services were 2:00 pm Friday, January 14th 2022 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Wade Stevens and Bro. Shorty Carden officiating. He was laid to rest in Salem Independant Methodist Cemetery in Choctaw County with Military Honors. Pallbearers were Matthew Carden, Marc Carden, Broc Carden, Spencer Carden, Cameron Carden, Cody Carden, and Elliot Stroud. Honorary pallbearers were Stacey Carden and Jim Palmer. Memorials may be made in his honor to the VFW
