Eupora, MS

Joan Maddox Doolittle, age 97 of Eupora, Mississippi, passed away on April 9, 2025, at North Mississippi Medical Center Long Term Care Center in Eupora, Mississippi. Joan was born on June 1, 1927, in Eupora, Mississippi to the late Dr. Silas Garner Maddox and Clara Mae Kilpatrick Maddox. She attended Eupora High school and Belhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi. Joan married the love of her life, Earl Pryor Doolittle, on October 26, 1947, and together, they began a beautiful life of adventure. Joan worked as a medical technician for three physicians at a Eupora medical clinic in the 1960’s. Her knowledge and care for others was not only evident in her professional life, but in her personal life. She was a homemaker and a loving mother to her three amazing children. Talented and creative describe Joan so well. She was a wonderful cook and host, often sharing meals with extended family and friends. She enjoyed ceramics, painting, needlework and putting puzzles together with family. Her beautiful home and garden reflected her love for decorating, landscaping and birds. Joan loved nature, introducing her children at an early age to tent camping in the mountains and many national parks. After raising their children, Joan and Earl continued to travel. Over the years, they enjoyed many road trips, often traveling out west to visit family. Joan enjoyed playing the piano. She took piano lessons as a child, but also played remarkably well by ear. She continued to play in her adult years and could occasionally be heard playing the piano at Long Term Care. Most importantly, Joan loved the Lord. She began attending First Baptist Church in Eupora as a child and joined the church on April 8, 1946. Joan was remembered by many as an amazing student of the Bible and she used that knowledge to help others grow in their faith. She began teaching Sunday School at First Baptist in 1961 and devoted many years encouraging others through her gift of teaching. Joan was determined, dependable, adventurous, smart, kind and giving. She will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother, loving grandmother, loyal friend and a light to her community. Joan leaves a legacy through a beautiful, well lived life. Joan is survived by her adoring children, Debbie (Don) Boone, Sheridan, Wyoming; Sterling (Tootsie) Doolittle, Cadaretta, Mississippi and David Doolittle, Starkville, Mississippi; grandchildren, Leslie (Rich) Jorgenson, Ethan (Betsy) Boone, Silas Boone, Mandy (Neil) Caston, Allen Doolittle, Laura Jo (Ryan) Worden, Denise (Rick) Garnett and fifteen great grandchildren.
