Mrs. Janet is survived by two sons; Walter Gilbert "Gil" Peterson, Jr., (Charlotte), Eupora, MS, Robert Scott Peterson, Portland, OR., three grandchildren; Kelsey Peterson Barnett (Douglas), Coy Hunter Peterson (Carlee), Celie Peterson Beardain (Dewayne), and two great grandchildren; Walter Hayes Beardain and Emmalyn June Barnett. She was preceded in death by her parents; Robert and Lucile Wood and a sister; Bobbye Wiley. Janet Lucile Wood Peterson, 86, went peacefully to her heavenly home at her residence in Eupora, MS December 12, 2023. She was born to the late Lucile and Robert Wood in Yazoo City, MS and was also preceded in death by her only sister; Bobbye Wiley from Oxford, MS. Janet is survived by her two sons; Walter Gilbert "Gil" Peterson Jr. (Charlotte) of Eupora, MS, and Robert Scott Peterson of Portland, OR, grandchildren; Kelsey Peterson Barnett (Douglas), Coy Hunter Peterson (Carlee), and Celie Peterson Beardain (Dewayne), great grandchildren; Walter Hayes Beardain and Emmalyn June Barnett. She moved to Winona, MS when her boys were very young. Janet adored her family. She was a devoted mother to her two sons Gil and Scott. She had a charismatic heart and worked tirelessly to provide a strong and loving home for her sons. She was so proud of their accomplishments and was eager to share those with close friends and family. Later she became a proud "Granny Nana" to triplet grandchildren. Throughout the years, she was eager to lend a helping hand, offer any support, and visit at every opportunity. She watched them grow up, go to college, and get married. She then became a great grandmother to Walt and Emmalyn. She cherished the holiday season, togetherness of family, and freely expressing her love unselfishly. Janet also reminisced often about her life after she moved to Oxford, MS for work and to be closer to her sister Bobbye and her family. She was retired from Mississippi Administrative Services, as an insurance adjudicator. She became extremely close to her co-workers whom she worked with many years. She continued that friendship beyond retirement. Janet had a warm personality and never met a stranger. She loved meeting people and sharing her life stories. She had moved to Eupora, MS to be near Gil Jr. and all the family.
