Huey Elton Shurden

Huey Elton Shurden age 88, passed away at his residence surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 in Maben, MS. He was born on September 20, 1935 in Greenville, MS to John Weldon Shurden and Wilma Colston Shurden. Huey was a graduate of Maben High School and met the love of his life, Ruby Mann at the Flying Saucier in Maben, MS. The two married and he was drafted to serve in the United States Army. He served two years in Germany and six years in the Army Reserve. They had two children together and he worked several different jobs including Manager at Firestone in West Point, MS, Farming and later owning and operating a Country Store. He also served on the Chamber of Commerce for the city of West Point, MS. Huey was a believer in Christ and a member of Center Grove Baptist Church in Maben, MS. He was a loving husband and a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. Mr. Shurden is survived by his loving wife of sixty-six years; Ruby Mann Shurden, Maben, MS, one daughter; Sandy (Mike) Jackson, Starkville, MS, one son; Stanley (Paula) Shurden, Maben, MS, six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; John Weldon Shurden and Wilma Colston Shurden and one sister; Martha Lou Shurden Vaughan. Funeral services with Military Honors will be at 2:00PM Friday, August 30, 2024 at North Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Kilmichael, MS. Rev. Don Vaughan will officiate. Pallbearers will be Fred Davis, Ben Jackson, Chris Jackson, Cliff Shurden, Jonathan Shurden and Raymond (Champ) Turner. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora is in charge of all arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all memorials be made to the American Lung Association or the charity of your choice.
