Funeral Services will be held 2:00PM Wednesday 5/24/23 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Double Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Oktibbeha County, MS. Visitation will be 1:00PM until 2:00PM Wednesday 5/24/23 at Oliver Funeral Home. The Graveside/Committal Services will be held at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel instead of Double Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Herman Lynn Makamson, a proud veteran of the Navy, passed away in Southaven, MS. The son of Catherine Louise and Herman H.A. Makamson, Herman was born on August 11, 1948 and attended West Memphis Senior High School graduating in 1966. At the age of 17, Herman enlisted in the Navy. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. As part of this service, Herman was awarded Navy Unit Commendation (06-08-19; 12-09-69), Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation (08-01-68; 17-10-69), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (8), Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, RVN Gallantry Cross, Good Conduct Medal (third), Navy Achievement Medal, and Sea Service Medal. Herman Lynn Makamson is survived by his wife, Kazue Makamson of 53 years, his daughters, Nancy Reiko Pierce (John Brandon), Hiromi Faye Culver (Russell Dean Culver), and Linda Mari Gant (Preston Lamar Gant), his grandchildren, Brent Alexander Makamson, Dylan Andrew Brown, Zachary Slade Pike, Nathan Reed Brown, (Kristina Quach-Brown), Preston Noah Pike, Ethan Benjamin Gant, and his great grandchild, Paisley Kay Pike. Herman was preceded in death by his father, Herman H. A. Makamson, his mother, Catherine Louise Makamson, his brothers, Jimmy Wayne Makamson, Ronnie L. Makamson, and Robert Doyle Makamson. His loved ones will remember his sense of humor, his advice in life, his love in sharing wisdom, his strength and perseverance, and his love for his family.
