Visitation will be 12:30PM until 2:00PM Friday 10/28/22 at Mathiston First Baptist Church. Faye passed away at the NMMC Hospice Care Unit in Tupelo after being admitted to the hospital with pneumonia and battling several years of Alzheimer’s disease. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William E. Ray, her parents, Leevie and Alton Nickels , 3 sisters, Jo Alice Bigham (Ralph), Nancy Dewberry Jackson (Lonnie), Betty Brooks (Cedric), 3 brothers, Kenneth Nickels (Emma Lou), James “Poochie” Nickels (Niven), Jimmie Nickels (Jonell). Daughter-in-law, Nancy, and a grandchild, Katie Ray. She is survived by her 3 children Dale Ray, Denise Flanagan (Marc), and Stacey Willoughby (Steve), grandchildren, William Howard Ray, Lindsey Moorman (Ryan), Nathan Flanagan (Melissa), Matthew, and Jordan Maloney. Four great grandchildren, sister-in-law Jonell Nickels. And a host of nieces and nephews. Faye always enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was working in the yard with her flowers and plants or sitting on the porch visiting with friends and family. She loved reading and spent endless hours with a good book. Had a love of quilting and over the years made several quilts by hand (the old fashioned way). She was a member of Mathiston First Baptist Church, where she volunteered and changed the weekly bible verse on the church display billboard for years. She volunteered with the local food pantry with some of the church ladies and with the Samaritans Purse Shoebox Ministry making “bears” for needy children around the world. She volunteered at the MSU Equine Therapeutic Horse Riding Program, where she loved the horses, the people and helping those that were disabled. A true servant heart, lending a hand wherever needed, and loving every minute. Faye is now at home with the Lord but will definitely be missed by so many. Funeral services were 2:00 pm Friday, October 28, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Mathiston with burial in Double Springs Methodist Cemetery in Oktibbeha County. Rev. Wade Stevens and Rev. Charles McClellan officiated. Pallbearers were William Ray, Nathan Flanagan, Matthew Maloney, Jordan Maloney, Ryan Moorman and Charlie Morris.
