Everette Anne Earnest

January 4, 1937 — December 23, 2023

Anne Arick Earnest passed away on December 23, 2023 at the age of 86 at her daughter, Joy's home in Alabaster, AL. Anne was born January 4, 1937 to Hershel Evertte and Annie Laura McCluskey Arickin Pheba, MS. Anne was the third oldest of 10 children. Anne married Albert Gray (Red) Earnest and moved to Cumberland, MS across the street from her sister Bessie and near Maggie. Anne and Red loved Cumberland where they were very active in school and community activities. They especially loved attending sporting events! Anne was always very organized. Everything always had a place and was well labeled. She worked as bookkeeper at Monte Glove Company until she retired at the age of 69. Anne was an active member of Cumberland Baptist Church where she faithfully brought Joy on Sunday morning, Sunday evening and Wednesday night. She instilled the need to read her Bible and memorize scripture. She enjoyed teaching the senior adult class. She later joined Mathiston First Baptist where she enjoyed helping with church meals. Anne had a servant’s heart. She was often found visiting the nursing home or sitting with a sick neighbor. Anne was known as a hard worker. She loved to work in her flower and vegetable gardens and was often found bringing vegetables to family and friends. Anne had a gift of hospitality, always making enough fried venison, tomato soup and corn bread for a nephew who might wander over or a neighbor who might drop by. She was a good cook making a name for herself with her fried chicken and chocolate cake. Anne and Red were frugal with their money yet very generous if a family member or friend had a need. Anne faithfully gave her time and money to organizations like Samaritan's Purse or St. Jude. Anne loved getting together with family and friends. She loved playing Rook and Dominoes with the Daltons, getting together with the Maben Garden Club, having lunch at Trace Way after church with the Nichol ladies, and riding with Pat to have Wednesday lunch with the ladies. She especially loved eating at Pheba with her brother and sisters, nieces and nephews and grandchildren. Anne’s favorite song was “This Is the Day That the Lord Hath Made” and her favorite saying was “If you aren’t having fun, its your own fault”. Anne had dementia in her last years, yet even in her dementia she was always able to say “I love ya, love ya, love ya! She was loved and will be missed.
