The Graveside/Committal Services will be held at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel instead of Spring Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:00PM until 2:00PM Thursday 1/19/23 at Oliver Funeral Home. Mrs. Elizabeth Anne Betterton Woods, 89, died January 15, 2023 at North MS Medical Center in Eupora, MS. Funeral Services were held 2:00PM Thursday January 19, 2023 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Spring Valley Cemetery in Mathiston, MS. Dr. Ken Parvin officiated. Pallbearers were Butch Stewart, Carlton Rowlen, Henry, Justin, Jeremy and Jason Flora. Elizabeth Anne Betterton was born to Drew Walton and Fannie Belle Betterton on February 25, 1933 in Chattanooga, TN. Born into a military family she grew up in various locations around the country. She went to school in Japan, her father’s last Army posting, and made friends there. The family retired to Greenville, MS, where Anne learned photography and worked for a portrait studio. She met Millard Woods, her husband of 66.5 years until his passing on Jan 4, 2021. The couple had three sons, Millard II, Michael, and Andrew Woods. Anne worked for years at the Stoneville Agricultural Research Center in Greenville, and also worked for the Federal Food Stamp Program assisting needy Delta residents. Later in life Anne carried out archival photography work for Greenville Mills. After she and her husband moved to Mathiston, MS in 1996, Anne loved doing crafts in a studio behind her home. She was a retired office worker for the U.S. Federal Civil Service and a member of First Baptist Church in Mathiston, MS where she developed many long-term friendships in the community. Mrs. Anne is survived by her two sons; Michael Cary Woods (Bonnie), Mathiston, MS and Andrew Neal Woods (Jill Shahverdian), Middletown, CT, five grandchildren; one great grandchild, one sister; Judy Katherine Betterton, Pittsboro, NC, and one brother; Charles Edward Betterton, Kankakee, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; Drew Walton and Fannie Belle Swick Betterton, husband; Millard Ellis Woods and a son; Millard Ellis Woods II. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora was in charge of all arrangements.
