Funeral Services will be held 12:30PM Wednesday 3/22/23 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with Graveside Services 2:00PM Wednesday 3/22/23 at the Mississippi Veterans Administration Memorial Cemetery in Kilmichael MS. Visitation will be 11:30AM until 12:30PM Wednesday 3/22/23 at Oliver Funeral Home. Charles “Chuck” Boyd Hickman, 62, died Thursday, March 16, 2023, at the home of his sister in Olive Branch, MS, surrounded by family and close friends. Mr. Hickman was under the care of the VA Medical Center of Memphis, TN, the VA Home Primary Care Team and Specialty Hospice of North MS at the time of his passing. For almost seven months, Mr. Hickman was treated for Glioblastoma Multiforme, Grade 4 brain cancer. During this time, he and his family were blessed by the outpouring of love, support and prayers of so many friends and family. Funeral Services will be held at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel, located at 1060 Veterans Memorial Blvd, Eupora, MS on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 12:30 PM. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel. Interment with military honors will follow at 2:00 PM at the North Mississippi Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, located at 2 Legion Rd, (just off Highway 82), Kilmichael, MS. Hospice Chaplain, Charlie Bland will officiate. Mr. Hickman was born in Greenville, MS on March 31, 1960 to Louis Francis and Mary “Sue” Hickman. He was a 1978 graduate of Riverside High School, Avon, MS. Immediately following high school he entered the U.S. Navy receiving basic training in Orlando, Florida. Over the next nine years, he was stationed primarily out of Jacksonville, Florida, Virginia Beach, VA and Ceiba, Puerto Rico. He served several tours aboard the U.S. Davis DD-937 serving as a Radioman, Third Class and NTDS-Input Utilization Display Equipment Operator. While serving his country, Mr. Hickman was awarded the First Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy/Marine Corp Overseas Ribbon 2 Stars, Navy Expeditionary Medal 2 Stars, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon 2 Stars. After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Navy, Mr. Hickman worked for ConAgra Towing Company. Over the next few years, he worked as an apartment manager in New Albany, MS and Batesville, MS. Mr. Hickman’s residence up until the time of his illness was in the Simpson Community, Weir, MS. He was a member of New Haven Baptist Church. He enjoyed family gatherings, visiting new places and listening to gospel music. Mr. Hickman was preceded in death by his father, Louis F. Hickman. Survivors include his mother, Sue Azlin Hickman of Weir, MS, one brother, Louis “Randy” Hickman (Sue) of Enid, Oklahoma, one sister, Carlotta H. Gibson (Lowell) of Olive Branch, MS, one niece, Apryl Potter (Jason) of Memphis, TN, and one great-niece, Blythe Potter, of Memphis, TN, and a very special cousin, Linda Adams (Kevin) of Burns, TN. Pallbearers will be Art Blake, Jimmy Kennedy, Marty Henson, Jason Potter, Loyd Ray and David Reeves.
